Desert
Desert
There is a clarity of mind made whole,
When land is silent with sand and rock,
So dry and barren the mind must plant,
And think about those things most hard,
As many a man has tested his strength,
Alone in a desert of confusion and doubt,
Where temptations arise from a place of fear,
Or maybe a place of deepest desire,
Perhaps a hunger for bread from stones,
Perhaps to fly from cliffs and rise,
Seeing the world below; one's self
Humans who struggle to do good yet fail,
At night, the stars in the desert do light,
A canvas of beauty that illuminates the sky,
Each star a reminder that our deepest desire,
Arises from ancient atoms not seen,
That infuse us all and make us expand,
Like the Universe; one day to collapse again
