Grandfather's House

You can hear time

In my grandfather's house

It ticks with certainty

In the corner hutch

The blue sofa is lovely

But it has lived a lifetime

Of husbands and wives

And children in-between

Jesus has the best spot

To watch the human drama

His portrait high above

With a view of Sunday brunch

My grandfather likes best

The bedroom near the kitchen

Where no one will bother

An old man and his thoughts

A memory of a childhood

In Poland, on a farm

Before he met his bride

And the church bell rang

One day, we tenderly lay

Grandfather's favorite foods

On the buffet with his wedding photo

To say goodbye and cry
