Treasure

A day of ruins

There's a Castle at the top of the hill

A defense against crusaders

I could easily broach its walls now

Its crumbing walls once impenetrable

Rubble and ruin

I know the Holy Land calls

But all land is holy

The spit of land on the wrong side

Spectacular

When the sun hits just right

There's a man there too

Who lives in its shadows

In a rusted out car

He lives like a King with the best views

Trinkets on the kitchen table

Broken pottery and ancient coins

Left in the desert

The things we treasure

End up on a stranger's kitchen table

A loan we can repay in time

I came to see a castle but left with a treasure

On loan

A cup of tea with the desert man

And a twisted pewter ring

He thought I should have

No longer shiny

But spectacular

When the sun hits just right
